A cookie and ice cream shop in the heart of Lafayette on the Boulevard next to Brother's and another brand new location in Broussard across from Wal-Mart and Home-Depot is sparking interest. The owner is calling the new shop modern with a classic, old fashioned concept. When you walk in, it looks like a panoramic picture. The owner says it's like two dreams coming together. Great American fresh baked cookies and Hershey's Ice cream, all in one shop. The Great American Cookie company is a mostly mall based cookie shop. Besides the Broussard location and now the revamped location in Lafayette on the Boulevard next to Brother's, the owner says there's only two other stores, outside a mall, in the country. The new parlor will be the first to serve Great American cookies and serve up you're favorite flavor of Hershey's Ice Cream. The owner Tye Hebert says his father had the bright idea. "Called me on a Sunday afternoon. He was in the mall, he was like man, they're giving away gold bricks here, what if we put that in the ice cream shop?" Tye says he didn't waste any time. He made some phone calls, and two years later, the idea was transformed into the real thing. "This is a first time kind of concept for both companies combining themselves together in a free standing location." Hebert says he and his staff also put a lot of detail into the design of the stores from the ground up. He says this rock wall was put together piece by piece, 4,000 rocks total. The neopolitan bathroom, and the mosaics, all done by Hebert and his staff. Tye says Broussard was the perfect fit for the new location and now right in the heart of Lafayette too! "There's nothing for family or kids to do besides a pizza place, or a Mexican restaurant, so they needed a place for kids to come and really enjoy themselves." said Hebert And Tye tells me it's all about the colors, and comfort. The red makes you hungry, the green makes you feel level, and the yellow makes you happy. I thought that was interesting.
